The Food Standards Agency the national agency that looks after food hygiene ratings across the UK has awarded Caffe Riva, Bowness, a 5-star rating.
The food hygiene scoring system ranges from 0 to 5, with 5 meaning “very good”. The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is government led and operates across in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
An Environmental Health Food Safety Officer calculates the score for each venue using the Food Law Code of Practice. Scores are then finalised by adding together the points scored in each of the three categories (hygiene, structural, and management compliance) making sure there are no significant failings in each of the categories.
Food safety issues can seriously damage a food outlets reputation, so a food hygiene rating sign is an instant reassurance that tells customers that the establishment they are visiting has high standards of food hygiene!
The ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection. It’s the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times, this includes food handling, how food is stored, how food is prepared, the cleanliness of facilities and how food safety is managed.
Alan Mather, High Spirits Operations Manager, which owns Caffe Riva, in Bowness, said: ‘’We work really hard as a team to make sure that the food hygiene standards at Caffe Riva are maintained to the highest levels. Receiving the highest possible food hygiene rating from South Lakeland District Council really demonstrates our commitment to food hygiene. It also shows our customers that we make every effort to make sure the food that we serve is safe and also delicious to eat!”
